Cool E-mails vs. Professional E-mails
Friday, August 1, 2008 I sent an e-mail this morning to arrange for a meeting over tea, and since it was an e-mail to a respectable old man, I wrote an e-mail similar to the following (names have been censored :P)
Dear Dr.X,
Thank you for a wonderful dinner last Saturday and an enjoyable evening. Always a pleasure.
Before my travel to ZZZZ, and before our dear friend XXXX departs to YYYY, we were wondering if we could meet you one more time, for tea perhaps, this Wednesday evening (6th August).
Kindly inform us if Wednesday is appropriate and the time which will be suitable to meet.
Yours sincerely,
XXXX
My CC'ed friend immediately e-mailed me commenting how posh my e-mail sounded, so I e-mailed him back with a "cool" version of the e-mail above:
yooo wussup doc!
man, thanx for a coolio dinner! it was awesome man!! totally cool!
yo, lsn, me & XXXX wanna meet u for a hot cuppa tea.. u free this wed!? pick the time dude, we'll be there..
u rock!
peace!
Umm..Slightly different.
Rule of thumb guys, keep your e-mails pro, even if it's for family/friends, helps avoid 90% of communication problems, you come across more respectable, and you start growing as a result, trust me :P.

Assalam Alaikoum
Good post! :D I absolutely agree. My supervisor for example has told me several times to refer to him by his first name and not to worry about writing formal emails but I simply couldnt do it and kept it that way.
I think it definately gives a very good impressions about you and given the amount of emails I send to my supervisor, it sure is good practice!
